John Merlo retains Australia’s number one barrister and obtains injunction to restrain defamation

In this particular matter I acted for, a permanent injunction was obtained for an interstate client, a national company  who due to defamation had lost $40 million in contracts. The matter was complicated and involved a subtle and extensive campaign by an activist.

The clients QC in that state had advised an injunction was not possible. After analysing the matter and advising the client I engaged Walter Sofronoff QC arguably Australia’s foremost barrister,  and secured an urgent ex parte injunction restraining the conduct complained of. I then drafted proceedings briefing another senior QC,  Tim Mathews QC instituted  those proceedings in relation to several arcane breaches under tort law. A permanent injunction was obtained. I went on to draft a voluminous criminal brief in excess of $300,000 for the clients submission to the relevant curial authority. I am particularly proud of this matter because it highlights my forensic attention to detail and tenacity. You can read about that under client testimonials.
